KUALA LUMPUR: MYAirline Sdn Bhd today said that six of its 10 aircraft have been deregistered by its lessors, while another four have been returned to lessors but remains registered with Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM).
This confirms a Business Times report that the airline is now fleet-less.
MYAirline said the action by the lessors to deregister the six aircraft is consistent with standard industry practices aimed at safeguarding lessors' assets.
According to MYAirline, the other four aircraft have been under the lessors control since October 13, 2023, and this is not a recent development.
"Nevertheless, we are actively engaged in discussions with our lessors with the intention of retaining these aircraft once the recapitalisation process concludes," it said in a statement.
MYAirline issued a statement to address "various inaccuracies and misinformation" disseminated through several media outlets.
It said such reports have the potential to undermine the ongoing efforts of its current management team to revitalise the airline, particularly its efforts to currently engaged in advanced discussions with potential investors.
With regards to its licences, MYAirline clarified that it had been suspended and not revoked, contrary to certain reports.
The airline maintains the perspective that the suspension of its licences serves the interests of its organisation, given the company's historical track record in maintaining a strong operational environment, especially in terms of technical, safety and operational aspects.
"The suspension necessitates that MYAirline demonstrate its capacity to operate independently and achieve financial capability to regain full certification and the reinstatement of its licences," it said.
MYAirline had said on Oct 31 that it was in advanced stages of negotiations with two potential investors to finalise a recapitalisation package to revive its operations, reimburse the affected passengers and pay the salaries and statutory dues to its employees.
On Oct 16, MYAirline's air operator certificate (AOC) was suspended for 90 days by CAAM.
The aviation regulator's chief executive officer, Datuk Captain Norazman Mahmud told Business Times in an interview on Oct 25 that CAAM was re-auditing the carrier's AOC renewal checklist.
On Nov 1, the Malaysian Aviation Commission suspended MYAirline's air service licence.
