Malakoff's units teams up with South Korea's COF to seek opportunities in eco-friendly waste treatment

KUALA LUMPUR: Malakoff Corporation Bhd's subsidiary Alam Flora Environmental Solutions (AFES) has signed a technology partner agreement with City Oil Field Inc (COF) to explore innovative technology for eco-friendly waste treatment.

They will identify business opportunities and environment sustainability in Malaysia by applying the new non-traditional Pyrolysis technology method and equipment from South Korea's Korea developed by COF to treat plastic wastes in an eco-friendly manner.

Both parties will strategise and undertake feasibility study to evaluate the feasibility, effectiveness and commercial viability of the RGO facility, including the development and operation of the RGO facility in Malaysia.

They will also cooperate and share any knowledge on circular economy and emerging technologies, as well as to explore any other potential business.

Malakoff managing director and group chief executive officer Anwar Syahrin Abdul Ajib sees the collaboration as a progressive move towards employing innovative solutions to manage waste in Malaysia sustainably.

This aligns with the company's newly-established business pillar, Malakoff Environmental Solutions, which emerged from its rebranding efforts last year.

"Within this strategic collaboration, AFES will undertake the crucial tasks of identifying appropriate sites in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Pahang for the establishment of the RGO facility.

"Moreover, AFES will play a pivotal role in securing the necessary plastic waste resources prior to the facility's operational phase.

"Complementing this effort, COF will provide invaluable consultancy services, offering expert guidance and technical advice throughout the project lifecycle.

"Additionally, COF will contribute essential equipment and resources essential for the successful design, implementation, commissioning, and operation of the RGO facility," he said in a statement.

Anwar Syahrin noted that this demonstrates Malakoff's dedication to enhancing its proficiency in the responsible and eco-friendly treatment of waste in Malaysia.

He said this commitment extends beyond merely supporting the national recycling rate target of 40 per cent by 2025 and aligns with the ambitious goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050.

COF is an environmental and energy organisation, specialising in producing industrial liquid fuel oil and naphtha from environmentally treated vinyl, plastic waste and non-usable oil through the application of an innovative Pyrolysis technology method.
