Equinix opens IBX data centres in Johor, KL

KUALA LUMPUR: Equinix Inc, a global digital infrastructure company, has unveiled two cutting-edge International Business Exchange (IBX) data centres in Johor and Kuala Lumpur, respectively.

In a statement, the company highlighted the critical role of these carrier-neutral facilities in strengthening Malaysia's digital infrastructure, especially in its quest to emerge as a regional digital hub amidst a rapidly growing digital economy.

Jeremy Deutsch, Equinix's President of Asia-Pacific, stressed Malaysia's pivotal status as a cornerstone market and prime destination for the company's esteemed clientele.

He underscored Equinix's dedication to providing top-tier digital infrastructure solutions, enabling businesses to thrive in a constantly evolving environment while fostering innovation, economic growth, and societal advancement, reported Bernama.

Deutsch noted that the establishment of these centres offers Malaysian enterprises access to a vast global ecosystem comprising over 10,000 enterprises, networks, and cloud service providers. 

Concurrently, it provides international businesses with unparalleled opportunities within Malaysia's digital realm.

Equinix's strategic entry into Malaysia seamlessly aligns with the government's MyDigital initiative, which aims to accelerate the nation's digital transformation by facilitating the development of digital products and services.

Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry, praised Equinix's decision to expand its presence in Malaysia, citing it as a testament to the company's unwavering confidence in the country's industrial landscape. 

He highlighted the pivotal role of these data centres in offering seamless connectivity and global network access to businesses, particularly domestic small and medium enterprises, while driving innovation across various sectors.

Meanwhile, Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim Sikh Abdul Majid, chief executive officer of the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida), commended Equinix's investment, emphasising its potential to stimulate innovation and growth, especially for local enterprises. 

He hailed Equinix's expansion as a significant enhancement to Malaysia's status as a digital hub, reaffirming the nation's commitment to fostering an investor-friendly environment conducive to economic growth and sustainable employment opportunities.
