Datasonic bags RM30m job to supply smart cards to Indonesia state-owned enterprise

KUALA LUMPUR: Datasonic Group Bhd's unit PT Datasonic Teknologi Indonesia (DTI) has bagged a job to supply RM30 million worth of smart cards to Perum Percetakan Negara Republik Indonesia (PNRI), a unit of the Indonesian Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises.

In a statement today, Datasonic said the job will run over a one to three-year period.

"This collaboration is crucial in positioning Datasonic as a strategic partner for PNRI that will complement each other in the rapidly growing smart card industry in Indonesia. The sharing of knowledge and expertise in security printing and smart cards promises mutual benefits for both countries and plays an important role in driving recovery and economic growth, especially in the post-COVID-19 era," DTI president director Azwan Omar said in a statement.

Passport and smart card supplier Datasonic counts Urusharta Jamaah Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned company of the Malaysian Ministry of Finance (Incorporated), as its largest shareholder.

It last traded unchanged at 49.5 sen a share, giving it a market capitalisation of RM1.47 billion.
