MMC's unit Penang Port buys Kalmar container handlers to boost ops

KUALA LUMPUR: Penang Port Sdn has invested in a new fleet of Kalmar container handlers to optimise its operations and improving the service delivery.

In a statement today, the port operator said the new fleet comprises four empty container handlers and one reach stacker. 

Renowned for their reliability and extensive experience in mobile machinery, Penang Port said the Kalmar container handlers are set to revolutionise its operations.

"This investment underscores our dedication to staying at the forefront of the industry and delivering efficient, reliable port services," said chief executive officer Datuk Sasedharan Vasudevan. l

According to Penang Port, the deployment of empty container handlers marks its first time to fully insource this operation using its own manpower and equipment that aims to enhance efficiency and cost-effectiveness.  

Meanwhile, the reach stacker, equipped with a container weighing system, will be utilised for the first time in Penang Port's container weighing operations.

"This new service is expected to generate additional revenue for the company while improving overall operational efficiency," said Penang Port. 

The company said the container handlers represent the latest in port equipment technology, designed to enhance efficiency, reduce cost and streamline the operations.

It added that the handlers is expected to streamline internal processes and significantly improve efficiency and enhance the port operations competitiveness.
