KUALA LUMPUR: HB Global Ltd has announced the appointment of new board members namely a non-executive chairman and two independent directors to strengthen its leadership team.
HB Global appointed Johol ruling chief (Undang Luak Johol in Negri Sembilan) Datuk Muhammad Abdullah as its chairman, succeeding Chan Kay Ding.
HB Global is a Singapore-based frozen food manufacturer listed on Bursa Malaysia's Main Market and counts China as its largest market.
Muhammad Abdullah said the company's management is committed to enhancing its competitiveness in the market by introducing innovative business ideas and embracing advanced technologies.
"We plan to further expand our downstream food and beverage businesses to optimise profit margins and grow our revenue base," he said in a statement.
Muhammad Abdullah added that the company will explore upstream expansion in agriculture and aquaculture.
The strategy aims to improve production and cost efficiency, ensure sustainable raw material supply, as well as to explore new market opportunities to grow new revenue streams.
"Food security is a critical global issue that is essential for the business development of HB Global. The group will strive to provide safe and reliable food products through stringent quality control and innovative product development," he said.
Muhammad Abdullah is known for his community efforts.
He is the founder of Yayasan Undang Johol, chairman of Tahfiz Masjid Tanggai, vice chairman of the Negri Sembilan National Anti-Drug Association and patron of Yayasan Pembangunan Masyarakat Malaysia, among others.
Also joining the boardroom of HB Global are Chin Nyat Fwu and Elizabbeth Siew, both serve as independent directors.
Chin has over 25 years of experience in corporate finance and accounting.
He has been senior general manager at Selangor Holdings Sdn Bhd since 2014 and previously worked as a financial controller in a prestigious hotel in Sydney and held various roles within Hong Leong Group.
He holds a Bachelor's degree in commerce (accounting) and a graduate diploma in business systems from Monash University and is a chartered accountant with memberships in Certified Practising Accountant Australia and the Malaysian Institute of Accountants.
Siew, a resident partner at Gan & Zul Advocates & Solicitors, is known for her intuitive commercial business sense and meticulous legal drafting skills.
Specialising in real estate law, she is a founding member of Malaysia PropTech Association and has published two best-selling books.
She holds a Bachelor of Laws from University of London and a Certificate in Legal Practice.
