New vehicle sales rise 11pct to 71,730 in July

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's new vehicle sales saw an 11 per cent increase to 71,730 units in July, up from 64,979 units in July 2023, according to the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA).

The MAA said passenger vehicle sales rose to 65,781 units compared to 59,024 units in the same month last year.

Commercial vehicle sales grew three per cent, from 5,766 units to 5,949 units.

The total industry volume (TIV) for July 2024 was 24 per cent higher than in June 2024, which recorded 58,046 units. 

The MAA attributed the 7.0 per cent year-to-date increase in TIV as of July 2024, compared to the same period in 2023, to longer working months and the introduction of new models.

The MAA expects sales to maintain its momentum in August, driven by National Day promotional campaigns from several car companies.

On the production side, there was a 5.0 per cent increase, with 70,295 units produced in July 2024, up from 66,862 units in July 2023.

Passenger vehicle production rose by 6.0 per cent to 66,010 units in July compared to 62,558 units in the same month last year.  

However, commercial vehicle production saw a slight decline of 0.4 per cent from 4,304 units to 4,285 units.
