Malaysia's new vehicles sales fall in October, may be higher in November

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's new vehicle sales fell 8.0 per cent to 69,859 units in October from 76,173 units sold in the same month last year, according to the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA).

MAA said in October, 64,322 units of passenger vehicles were sold, down 6.0 per cent from 68,721 units last year, while commercial vehicle sales dropped 26 per cent to 5,537 units from 7,452 units.

Nonetheless, October's total industry volume (TIV)increased by 20 per cent from September's 58,032 units, driven by year-end promotions and an extended working month.

The association noted that this raised the TIV for first 10 month from January to October by 2.4 per cent to 664,002 units from 648,130 units last year.

This comprised 608,225 passenger vehicles, up 5.0 per cent from 581,672 in January to October 2023, and 55,777 units of commercial vehicles which declined 16 per cent from 66,458 units previously.

MAA expects new vehicle sales in November to be higher than October's level.
