Malaysia's new vehicles sales forecast raised by 4.57pct to 800,000 units this year

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) has raised its total industry volume (TIV) forecast for motor vehicle sales in Malaysia to 800,000 units this year.

This reflects an increase of 35,000 units or 4.57 per cent from the previous estimate of 765,000 units.

MAA president Mohd Shamsor Mohd Zain announced this in the media launch of the Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show 2024 (KLIMS 2024) today.

Mohd Shamsor said the original forecast of 765,00 was made in July where industry players had anticipated a drop in the sales momentum.

"We see that it may potentially reach up to 800,00 this year based on the momentum and the previous years' record and that the next two months as positive especially with the current promotion done by the manufacturers," he said.

"We did not take account of the backorders, especially the smaller variant models from national car manufacturers," he noted.

On the expected 2025 TIV, Mohd Shamsor said  discussions have not yet taken place.

"We will discuss it with our members, and normally an official announcement will be made in January 2025," he said.

Meanwhile, KLIMS is back for its 10th edition.

It is set to take place from Dec 5-11 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre here.

This year's show brings together nearly 70 exhibitors, including prominent automotive brands and tech providers, aiming to highlight Malaysia's commitment to sustainability and innovation in the mobility sector.

The government's policies supporting green technology and incentives for EV adoption align with the exhibition's focus, making KLIMS 2024 a platform for exploring Malaysia's path toward sustainable transportation solutions.

Attendees will also have the chance to win exciting prizes, including a Toyota Yaris 1.5G Limited and a Perodua Acia, in a special lucky draw with total prizes valued at RM250,000.

Mohd Shamsor targets at least 250,000 visitors to attend the event, which aims to showcase Malaysia's potential as a regional leader in the future of mobility.
