KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) has appointed Datu Wong Hee Sieng as a new member effective from Aug 16, after Datuk Ir Alice Jawan Empaling stepped down on June 13.
In a statement today, the commission said that Wong was appointed by the Transport Minister upon consultation with the Prime Minister, under Section 5(1)(c) of the Malaysian Aviation Commission Act 2015.
He currently serves as the permanent secretary at the Sarawak Transport Ministry since June 5, 2024 and brings over three decades of experience in public administration.
His distinguished career includes significant leadership roles such as the Sarawak Buoys and Light Board chairman and the Sarawak Road Safety Council executive chairman.
"His appointment as a member marks a strong addition to Mavcom, as the commission continues its efforts to promote a sustainable, consumer-focused and competitive civil aviation sector in Malaysia," Mavcom executive chairman Datuk Seri Saripuddin Kasim.
"His vast experience in public service and leadership in transport-related fields will contribute greatly to the commission's ongoing efforts to foster a dynamic and competitive aviation landscape," he added.
Saripuddin also expressed his appreciation for the departing chief operating officer Raja Azmi Raja Nazuddin following the conclusion of his contract on Sept 14 after serving for four years.
"Throughout his tenure, Raja Azmi has demonstrated exceptional strategic insight and professionalism, navigating the commission through significant industry challenges.
His contributions have left an indelible mark, and we wish him continued success in his future endeavours," he said.
