KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Semiconductor Recruitment Day 2024, an event to match job-seekers with jobs in semiconductor companies, connected over 2,000 with over 25 companies during the two-day event.
Some 3,000 candidate screenings were conducted.
Organised by Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec) and Malaysia Advanced Semiconductor & AI Academy, the event delivered unparalleled access to local brightest talents and the high-growth and high-paid semiconductor industry.
Sidec chief executive officer Yong Kai Ping said job seekers had the opportunity to engage with leading companies, including industry giants like NXP, UST Global, Infineon Technologies, Inari Amertron, Chipsbank (Singapore), and Betterlife (China) and several more across Malaysia.
He said the event resulted in hundreds of on-the-spot job offers, with high demand for key roles such as design verification engineer, physical design engineer, and analog circuit design engineer.
He said three distinct groups of participants stood out during the event such fresh graduates, particularly those with mid-level academic standings, attended in large numbers as they sought employment opportunities after extended job searches.
"Second, current professionals workers, mainly from the manufacturing division, were eager to explore new roles within the semiconductor field.
"Lastly, there was a significant presence of international job seekers, primarily locals who had been working overseas and returned to Malaysia due to economic challenges in the western countries," he said in a statement.
Yong said beyond filling up jobs, the event also helped in shaping Malaysia's future in the semiconductor industry, with the event seeing a win-win situation between job seekers and employers as hundreds of successful interviews and many candidates walking away with on-the-spot job offers.
Following the success, Yong said Sidec is committed to hosting more events that will continue to strengthen the National Semiconductor Strategy (NSS) that will further enhance Malaysia's presence as a key player in the global integrated circuit design and semiconductor sectors.
"This is just the beginning. We're creating an ecosystem that connects Malaysia's brightest minds with global industry leaders. The impact of this event will be felt across the entire semiconductor supply chain," he said.
