Fresh bid to clean up '3D' stigma

KUALA LUMPUR: Alam Flora Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Malakoff Corporation Bhd, has introduced an upgraded waste management fleet, redesigned staff uniforms, and an innovative super-app called "Recyclink," all aimed at presenting a more modern and sustainable image.

These initiatives reflect the company's commitment to enhancing operational efficiency, safety, and sustainability through the adoption of cutting-edge technology.

As part of its efforts to raise the bar for waste management services and professionalism in Malaysia, Alam Flora has added 305 new units to its fleet, boosting efficiency across its service areas. The fleet includes 154 compactor trucks, 37 powerpress vehicles, 77 armroll trucks, 20 Triton utility vehicles, and 17 backhoes.

The new fleet, equipped with advanced engine technologies that adhere to global environmental standards, reduces emissions while enhancing fuel efficiency and optimising route planning to minimise its carbon footprint.

Additionally, the fleet includes upgraded safety features such as improved leachate tanks for better odour control and durability.

Alam Flora, covering chief executive officer Badrulhisyam Fauzi, said the introduction of the new compactors is one of the most significant upgrades to our fleet to date.

"It is equipped with a dual-function bin lifter that operates according to European Standard EN 1501-05, which allows for more efficient waste collection. This means faster, more reliable services for communities while enabling us to cover more ground in less time," he said at the launch event here yesterday.

Badrulhisyam noted that these improvements not only streamline their operations and reduce mechanical strain on vehicles, which extends their lifespan and lowers maintenance costs, but also contribute to environmental conservation through increased efficiency.

"By operating more efficiently, we consume less fuel and produce fewer emissions, aligning with our sustainability goals. It's a win-win for operational productivity and sustainability," he said.

Meanwhile, Alam Flora has rolled out new uniforms for its frontline staff and contractors. Crafted from durable, breathable materials, the uniforms improve visibility, safety, and comfort while also presenting a more professional appearance.

Badrulhisyam said that the new uniforms signify the company's appreciation for its frontline workers, who are essential to maintaining public cleanliness, and reflect Alam Flora's commitment to raising their status and professionalism.

Alam Flora has also introduced the "Recyclink" app, aimed at transforming recycling practices and advancing sustainability. This app enables users to engage in cashless recycling through a rewards system, eliminating the need for paper-based transactions.

It also fosters collaboration with the private sector to achieve environmental, social, and governance (ESG) objectives via business-to-business partnerships. Notable features of the app include a robochat service for enhanced customer support, along with plans to incorporate smart bins and bulk recyclable item collection to optimise operations.

Through these initiatives, Alam Flora reaffirms its commitment to modernising Malaysia's waste management sector, which has often been viewed as a "3D" profession—dirty, dangerous, and difficult.

By prioritising technological innovation and the welfare of its workforce, the company aims to elevate industry standards while ensuring the safety and recognition of its frontline employees.
