Zecon plans 1,214ha technology park in Kuching

KUALA LUMPUR: Zecon Bhd plans to develop a RM900 million 1,214 hectare  technology park in Kuching, featuring a 300MW solar farm and a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).

On Oct 17, 2024, Zecon, signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation Berhad (SDEC) and Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak Sdn Bhd (CENTEXS) to set up Kota Petra Green Technology Park (KPGTP).

The collaboration aims to leverage each organisation's strengths: Zecon as landowner, SDEC to enhance digital technology and telecommunications, and CENTEXS for capacity building and training.

KPGTP, endorsed by the Sarawak State Government as a Special Economic Zone, similar to tech parks in Peninsular Malaysia, Batam, and Singapore.

It is expected to attract RM12 billion in investments and create around 10,000 jobs, contributing an estimated RM1.7 billion annually to the gross domestic product.

The park will also host six artificial intelligence (AI)-driven data centres, positioning Sarawak in the data-driven economy while minimising its carbon footprint.

Zecon is currently engaging with multiple banks to secure funding for the engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning (EPCC) of the 300MW solar farm and associated infrastructure developments, which include two bridges across the Santubong and Serai Rivers.
