Bursa Malaysia closes higher with key index supported by banks, healthcare stocks

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia closed higher today supported by financial services and healthcare heavyweights. 

At 5pm, FTSE Bursa Malaysia (FBM) KLCI added 0.44 per cent or 7.13 points to 1,614.09 versus Tuesday's close of 1,606.96. 

The key index moved between 1,606.53 and 1,616.03 levels throughout the day. 

The broader market saw gainers led losers 727 to 381 while 522 counters were unchanged. 

On the index board, both FBM100 and FBM Emas added 0.67 per cent to 12,000.68 and 12,314.63 respectively. FBM Ace rose 1.46 per cent to 5,265.25. 

Malacca Securities Sdn Bhd noted that Tenaga Nasional Bhd and Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd buoyed sentiment on the local bourse. 

"Among the gainers, export-oriented stocks, primarily from the technology and healthcare sectors, led the way after stronger-than-anticipated U.S. jobs data fuelled expectations of a stronger dollar," it said in a note.
