SHAH ALAM: Progressive Impact Corporation Bhd's (PICORP) subsidiary Alam Sekitar Malaysia Sdn Bhd (ASMA) has bagged contracts with a combined value of RM19 million for its environmental monitoring segment.
ASMA, a specialist in environmental consultancy, monitoring services, and wastewater management, was awarded the first contract valued at RM14.7 million, along with an additional addendum contract worth RM300,000, bringing the total contract value to RM15 million.
The compamy will provide preventive and corrective maintenance services for water quality monitoring stations from Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) for three years from Jan 1 2025 until Dec 31 2027.
The contract was awarded through an open tender and formalised on Nov 13 2024 with the acceptance of a Framework Agreement (FA) from Air Selangor.
The scope of work includes preventive and corrective maintenance services for 190 hybrid distribution water quality real-time analyser (Hydra) stations across Selangor.
In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, PICORP the contract highlights the growth potential of ASMA's water segment and reflects the confidence of government agencies - in this case, Air Selangor - in the company's capabilities and experience in delivering high-quality environmental services.
"It is expected to contribute positively to PICORP's earnings per share for the financial year starting 2025 onwards," it added.
PICORP group executive director Datuk Dr. Lukman Ibrahim said the company is poised to support Air Selangor's long-term strategy "Trust Our Tap 2028", which is a holistic approach aimed at ensuring a safe water supply through four main pillars, one of which focuses on water quality control and monitoring.
"Currently, Air Selangor operates a distribution network covering over 30,000 km of pipes, supplying water to more than nine million consumers, with 190 Hydra units strategically installed throughout the network.
"Therefore, it is essential that these high-level water monitoring stations remain in optimal operational condition to ensure water security. This would enable swift emergency responses, such as public notifications, temporary shutdowns of water plants, provision of alternative water supplies, and other proactive mitigation efforts to protect the public" he added.
With ASMA's proven expertise and prior experience as the installer of the 190 Hydra stations from 2018 to 2021, the company is confident in its ability to provide the best maintenance services.
"We are optimistic that we can deliver the best maintenance services, leveraging our operational expertise and familiarity with the technology as prior installer of these monitoring stations," said Lukman.
He commended Air Selangor for the initiatives taken to ensure water security and also expressed his hope that the partnership between ASMA and Air Selangor will help support the latter's vision of becoming a leading water services provider in Asia by 2030.
In addition to the Air Selangor contract, ASMA has bagged several other contracts, including one valued at RM3.5 million for the provision of a mobile continuous emission monitoring system (CEMS) to support the implementation and sustenance of the predictive emission monitoring system (PEMS) from a leading client.
The company also secured RM500,000 worth of contracts for its environmental monitoring services, covering stack, noise, vibration, effluent, ambient air and marine water, bringing the total to RM4 million.
For the PEMS contract, the scope of work includes the sustenance of PEMS on annual and quarterly audits, deployment of mobile CEMS for PEMS implementation, as well as for emission monitoring and intervention (EMI) implementation, along with other optional works.
"We are pleased to support our client in their journey towards continued compliance with Malaysia's Clean Air Regulation 2014," Lukman said.
He highlighted that when a PEMS model is deemed suitable for a particular stack, approved by the Department of Environment (DoE), and successfully implemented, it is mandatory for the system to be maintained to ensure the accuracy and validity of the emission data, among other factors.
"In complying with the requirements, our client has partnered with us for their sustenance program, including PEMS verification audits such as the quarterly relative accuracy audit and the annual relative accuracy test audit," said Lukman.
"This partnership will not only help them comply with DoE regulations but also strengthen their sustainability efforts.
"The significant contract wins are expected to improve PICORP's order book, which now totals RM35 million for the environmental segment, further strengthening the group's financial outlook and providing a strong impetus as we head into 2025," he added.
