KUALA LUMPUR: Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) has announced the reappointment of three members to its Shariah Advisory Council (SAC), the highest authority on Islamic financing in the country.
They are Selangor Mufti Prof Madya Datuk Anhar Opir, Dr. Marjan Muhammad, and Dr. Ahmad Basri Ibrahim.
The SAC now comprises seven members with expertise in Shariah, Islamic finance, and law, led by Prof. Dr. Ashraf Md Hashim as chairman.
The SAC plays a crucial role as the highest authority in determining Islamic law for Islamic financial businesses in Malaysia.
It advises BNM on Shariah matters, ensuring that Islamic financial activities comply with Shariah principles.
Moreover, its rulings also guide Islamic financial institutions, courts, and arbitrators, promoting confidence in the Islamic finance industry.
BNM also expressed its appreciation to Tan Sri Mohd Zawawi Salleh and Zainal Abidin Jamal for their valuable contributions.
Mohd Zawawi completes his service on Dec 31, 2024, while Zainal Abidin's term ended on Oct 31, 2024.
