KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor is ready to work closely with industry players to reap the benefits of artificial intelligence (AI) to increase the productivity of workers and improve government's efficiency.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said leveraging AI was the guiding philosophy behind the launch of the Speed Selangor Policy that will be implemented next year.
He said the policy will reduce the process and waiting time businesses currently face when dealing with planning permission or acquiring a business license after receiving the certificate for completion and compliance (CCC).
"Beginning next year, we aim for local authorities to provide business licenses within 24 hours upon ticking all the CCC boxes," he said in his speech at the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) 2024 Appreciation Dinner.
Amirudin said Selangor has ambitious targets in the semiconductor sector, and with a sizable investment for 2025, the state aims to attract more companies from China and Taiwan, particularly those who want to invest in the design phase of integrated circuits.
On SIBS 2025, he said Selangor is determined to continue evolving and improving the summit even further.
"Our next focus of SIBS will be on promoting high-growth sectors, embracing technological innovation, and cultivating a highly skilled international workforce that are capable of meeting the evolving demands of the global industries."
"With a strong foundation in place, the summit is well-positioned to continue building upon these successes and remain a beacon of opportunity, where businesses thrive, partnerships deepen, and innovation reaches new heights," he added.
Amirudin said SIBS 2025 will return to the all-in-one format and will be held in a single week from Oct 8-11, 2025, at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC).
At a press conference, Amirudin said the summit will continue to focus on industrial park, smart city and electrical vehicle (EV), AI, as well as maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) service.
"We are not only prioritise the number of attendees but also good-quality transactions. For example, the first SIBS does not have a lot of visitors but it the transaction value was huge because it is an offer for certain sectors such as industrial park which is very attractive and compete with each other."
"Some states also gained memoranda of understanding (MOUs) worth up to a billion but after this, we will focus on how to realise each MOU and this will have an impact on Malaysia's economy, especially Selangor," he said.
