Hartalega first in industry to announce verified carbon footprint for glove products

KUALA LUMPUR: Nitrile glove manufacturer, Hartalega Holdings Bhd has set a new environment, social and governance (ESG) benchmark for the glove industry by announcing third party reviewed carbon footprint for three of its products.

The company's first life cycle assessment LCA study, covering data from July 2021 to June 2022, evaluated the environmental impact of three major products: the BDG Nitrile Biodegradable Glove, Standard Nitrile Glove, and COATS Colloidal Oatmeal Coated Glove.

Emissions range from 0.034073 to 0.034078 kg CO 2 equivalent per piece.

Hartalega is the first in the industry to publicly share this data, which has been independently reviewed by TÜV SÜD, an authority in environmental audits.

"Transparency about our carbon emissions is vital for driving improvements and accelerating our sustainability initiatives. The life cycle assessment provides a baseline for us to identify further opportunities to reduce emissions and improve resource efficiency across our operations and supply chain. "We will continue raising the bar for ESG best practices in the glove manufacturing sector," said Hartalega Holdings Bhd chief executive officer Kuan Mun Leong in a statement today.

He said the disclosure of carbon footprint data solidifies Hartalega's position as a leader in integrating sustainability into its operations and products.
