KUALA LUMPUR: In line with its commitment to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, Sunway recently held a media preview of Sunway Smart Parking, a fully-integrated licence plate recognition system.
The system supports the use of multiple e-wallet payment options such as GrabPay, Boost, Wechat Pay, Alipay, Touch N’ Go Digital, and Maybank QR on top of credit partners MasterCard, Visa, American Express, JCB, UnionPay and MyDebit.
The cashless and ticketless parking system is part of Sunway’s digitalisation journey and will eliminate the need to wind down windows and stretching your arms out to take a ticket.

Sunway Smart Parking is operational at Sunway City, which includes Sunway Pyramid, Sunway hotels and Menara Sunway. Currently, the system is online for season parkers but will be ready for the public by the first quarter of next year.
It requires drivers to register their car plate number through the Sunway Parking portal. Once registered, they only need to ensure that their car plate is attached to a participating e-wallet to make payment, which will then enable them to move in and out of Sunway properties without any hassle.
When registered drivers enter the Sunway properties, their car plates will be scanned by a licence plate recognition system for identification before the boom gate automatically lifts.
Alternatively, shoppers who do not use any e-wallets or do not have Internet access can still opt to pay with the Touch N’ Go card or through the auto payment system to allow some time for user adoption.
Sunway also announced that shoppers who register their car plate numbers during the pre-registration period would get the chance to enjoy a one-time free parking when it was opened to public.
