KUALA LUMPUR: MINI Malaysia has unveiled a pair of new MINI John Cooper Works (JCW) models, the John Cooper Works Clubman 306HP and John Cooper Works Countryman 306HP.
As the names suggest, the JCW Clubman and Countryman now have a power output of 306hp, motivated by a revised and improved 2.0-litre TwinPower Turbo engine.
“The New MINI John Cooper Works 306HP variants are amongst the most powerful models in MINI’s 60-year history,” said Harald Hoelzl, managing director of BMW Group Malaysia.
“As the power source for extreme driving fun, the comprehensively redesigned four-cylinder engine in our new models are oriented towards maximum, assuring their places in the leading range of sport models in the premium compact segment.”
The engine of the JCW pair features modified camshaft, reduced compression ratio, but increased charging pressure, turbocharged fitted with a blow-off valve for optimised response, repositioned air intake duct and multi-hole fuel injectors.
There’s also an improved cooling system, with two external radiators, independent cooling module, and dedicated transmission coolant circuit and oil cooler.
Apart from 306 horses gained, torque is now rated at 450Nm, peaking at 1,750 to 4,500 rpm.
Mated to an eight-speed Steptronic Sports automatic transmission, ALL4 all-wheel drive system and Launch Control, the MINI JCW Clubman 306HP is able to complete a century sprint in 4.9 seconds, and MINI JCW Countryman 306HP 0.2 seconds slower, at 5.1 seconds.
To further complement the exciting driving experience, both cars are equipped with newly-developed sports exhaust system, redesigned sports brake system with red-coated callipers that bear JCW logo, and sports suspension all around that lower the ride height by 10mm.
As a MINI John Cooper Works, both cars are designed to stand out from the crowd.
The cars wear distinctive signature red accents all around their bodies, unique front bumper designs, deeper front spoilers, new lower grille inserts, and JCW badges on the grille, fenders, side sills and tailgates.
Headlights, fog lights and tail lights are all LEDs as standard.
The interior of both MINI JCW Clubman and Countryman are as sporty as their exteriors.
Both cars get JCW leather steering wheel, JCW instrument cluster, JCW trims, leather sports seats and stainless steel pedals.
They also feature 8.8-inch infotainment system with MINI Connected, Bluetooth connectivity, and Harman Kardon premium sound system.
The MINI JCW Clubman 306HP is priced at RM358,888 and available in four colours including Rebel Green, White Silver, Midnight Black and Chili Red.
The MINI JCW Countryman is RM20k dearer, priced at RM378,888. Colour offerings are Rebel Green, Light White, Midnight Black and Chili Red.
New MINI Clubman
Also unveiled prior to the JCW duo was the refreshed MINI Clubman with hallmark MINI driving fun and unique MINI Yours styling kit.
Retailed at RM298,888, the new MINI Clubman arrived with the highly-anticipated Indian Summer Red paint work, complemented with redesigned front fascia, LED headlights and fog lights, Union Jack tail lights, and MINI Yours British Spoke 18-inch light alloy wheels.
Inside, the car receives more MINI Yours items which include Walknappa leather steering wheel, Walknappa leather seats, ambient lighting, floor mats and side window labels.
The premium 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system is also present here.
Other updates in the range of MINI Connected digital services comprise built-in 4G SIM technology, Emergency Call, MINI TeleServies, Concierge Service, Apple CarPlay and MINI Online.
Offered in Cooper S variant, the new Clubman is powered by the 2.0-litre TwinPower Turbo engine that produces 192hp and 280Nm of torque.
The engine is bolted to a new seven-speed dual-clutch sports automatic transmission and has a combined fuel consumption rating of 6.2 litres per 100km.
Other than Indian Summer Red, the car is also available in Pepper White, Thunder Grey, melting Silver, Starlight Blue and new British Racing Green.
