PUTRAJAYA: Prasarana Malaysia and Volvo Buses recently made public the former’s procurement of 90 double decker buses as part of Rapid Bus’ fleet replacement programme.
The higher capacity Volvo B8L double decker bus with Euro 6 standard buses will replace a number of the single deck buses around Kuala Lumpur.
No details of cost of purchase for the buses and maintenance were released, though Euro 5 diesel will be used for the buses said Prasarana, which added that the fuel was compatible with the double deckers.
Details were released during the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Conference in Putrajaya hosted by Volvo Buses together with the Technology Depository Agency (TDA) and Prasarana.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke who was at the conference said Sarawak and Johor would receive their very own BRT system in Kuching and Johor Baru respectively.
The announcement was made in conjunction with further discussions to potentially expand the use of the BRT system within the Klang Valley.
Currently, Bandar Sunway in the Klang Valley is the only township to adopt the BRT system and put it to trial. It is operated and managed by Prasarana.
