Continental's Alor Setar plant celebrates 40th anniversary

KUALA LUMPUR: Technology company and tyre manufacturer, Continental celebrated its Alor Setar plant's 40th anniversary recently.

To honour the achievement, the plant marked its production milestone with the rolling out of the 78 millionth tyre.

“With 40 years of experience, our people here at Continental has built a tradition of excellence and won the trust of our customers by offering high quality products and services," said the plant's general manager Carlos Bernabe.

“To conduct business for 40 years is an outstanding accomplishment, but how this plant had grown over the years and achieved the many milestones is amazing.

"This is a true testament to the people of this plant who consistently demonstrated full commitment, teamwork, flexibility, customer focus and the passion to win. I’m proud of our team.” he added.

The plant in Alor Setar, with the state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities, was established since 1979 and produced tyres for passenger light truck as well as two-wheel tyres for the APAC market.

A special event to commemorate the anniversary, held on Dec 6, saw the participation of the management and about 800 plant employees.

The plant started its operation with approximately 100 employees, but currently employs more than 1000 people, including women in various positions.

"We do more than just placing female employees in the various positions. We develop and prepare our them for the jobs, give them proper support and appropriate development programme,” said its Human Relations head Guvendiran Velayuthan.

Among the latest innovation at the plant was the establishment of the new state-of-the-art rubber compound mixing facility which has potential growth contribution and high product quality performance.

Another innovation was the newly-built training centre, aimed at adapting to the contemporary requirements of sustainable development.

Over the decades, the plant has also received several recognition awards from customers such as Ford, Honda and Proton for quality benchmark in delivering excellent products and services.
