KANGAR: A Form Two student sustained a leg injury after falling from the first-floor roof of a school building.
The incident is believed to have occurred when the student was dizzy after vaping.
Perlis Education Department director Rose Aza Che Ariffin said the incident took place about 11am.
"The student said he was vaping in class towards the end of recess, so he was feeling dizzy.
"He tried to go down from the first floor of the school building through the roof pathway, but because he was dizzy, he fell to the ground. He sustained minor injuries to his leg," she said when contacted today.
She said after the fall, the student became uncontrollable, showing signs of distress, prompting the school administration to contact police.
"Police brought the student to the Kangar Health Clinic for an examination. He was tested for drugs, but it came out negative.
"The student's guardian took him home. He is in stable condition."
Rose Aza said the department, and the school were working with police to investigate the case.
"The department has instructed the school's discipline teacher to investigate and identify the supplier of the vape the student used and to follow up on the student's drug test, then submit a report to the Student Affairs Unit, Student Development Sector, Perlis Education Department.
"We are cooperating with police. We will help the school prepare the report and take action.
"The student will be assisted until he fully recovers."
Kangar police chief Assistant Commissioner Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop confirmed the incident, saying that an investigation was underway.
A source said the student was using a "mushroom flavour" vape that is popular among students.
