#TECH: New advancement in mirrorless photography

CAMERA technology has evolved a lot over the past few years. The evolution of technology has transformed the way professionals capture moments.

In its effort to meet demand users, Canon Marketing Malaysia has unveiled EOS R5 Mark II, a new full-frame mirrorless camera, which Canon said represents a significant leap in capabilities.

At the core of the EOS R5 Mark II lies a new 45-megapixel back-illuminated (BSI) stacked CMOS sensor paired with the advanced Digic Accelerator.

The company said this combination facilitates rapid data processing, enabling the camera to deliver exceptional autofocus performance and handle high-resolution images with ease.

Photographers can now capture detailed images, even in the most challenging lighting conditions, thanks to the camera's sophisticated Dual Pixel Intelligent AF system. Enhanced by deep learning algorithms, this technology ensures reliable subject detection and tracking, making it ideal for dynamic environments such as sporting events and crowded gatherings.

"The '5 series' empowers videographers, content creators, and hybrid shooters alike. With the EOS R5 Mark II, we've taken this legacy further by integrating the finest elements of the EOS R5 and introducing revolutionary innovations that set a new standard of excellence. We are confident that the EOS R5 Mark II will spark creativity and elevate content creation to unprecedented levels," said Canon Marketing Malaysia, head of Image Communication Business Division, Edward Chang.

One of the most advanced features in the R5 Mark II is the Eye Control AF. This feature allows users to select their focus point simply by looking at their subject, streamlining the shooting process and enhancing creative freedom. Coupled with the Register People Priority function, the camera can prioritise a pre-registered individual, making it easier to capture fleeting moments amidst distractions.

Sports photographers will particularly appreciate the Action Priority AF mode, which automatically shifts focus to moving subjects. This adaptability is a testament to Canon's commitment to evolving its technology to meet the needs of diverse shooting scenarios, ensuring that key moments are never missed.

On the video side, the EOS R5 Mark II is not only designed for still photography but also for videographers. The camera is designed to shoot 8K DCI 60p RAW video to cater to professional filmmakers demanding high-quality footage. Additionally, the new 4K DCI 60p SRAW option allows for efficient recording without overwhelming storage needs, enabling creators to focus on their craft rather than technical limitations.

A game-changing pre-recording feature captures up to five seconds of footage before the record button is pressed, perfect for spontaneous events. With reduced rolling shutter distortion and robust external recording capabilities, the R5 Mark II positions itself as a game-changer in the video production landscape.

Besides that, the camera is weather-sealed to protect it against the element when shooting in harsh conditions.
