NO, he is not starring in a musical. Altimet’s role is to write the rap segment of several songs for the stage adaptation of last year’s critically-acclaimed movie Ola Bola.
Together with composer and lyricist Mia Palencia, they have started working on them last month.
“This is my first time collaborating with Enfiniti (the producer of Ola Bola The Musical) and I find it stimulating. The production team has brainstorming sessions and they help improve the original ideas,” said the 38-year-old artiste of his maiden project, helmed by actress and film producer Puan Sri Tiara Jacquelina.
The musical is slated to be staged in March next year at Istana Budaya in Kuala Lumpur, once the prestigious venue reopens following the completion of renovation works.
Earlier this year, the hip-hop artiste and songwriter had said he would quit performing when he turns 40 on Nov 27 next year.
He said was thankful that the projects he got recently were those that required him to work behind the scene.
“After singing for almost two decades, it’s time to make way for younger rappers to take over. I prefer working behind the scenes, like producing, writing and composing for fellow artistes,” he added.
The Petaling Jaya-born artiste made his debut in 1999 as a member of Teh Tarik Crew.
After the group disbanded in 2007, Altimet went solo.
Among his hits included last year’s Amboi, and the duet with Awi Rafael, Kalau Aku Kaya, in 2014.
Currently, Altimet has completed composing a single for up-and-coming artiste Sam Nuhair (of Akademi Fantasia 2014 fame).
“I’ve been engaged by TV3 to come up with a new theme song for Nona (the television station’s longest-running women’s magazine show),” said Altimet, who has composed theme songs for the station’s other programmes like Wanita Hari Ini.
Before he turns 40, he has two more albums to work on, one to be released this year, and the other, next year.
