KUALA LUMPUR: Popular singer-songwriter Faizal Tahir got a pleasant surprise when Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak twitted some of the lyrics to his song Negaraku recently.
The multiple award-winning artiste and record producer retweeted PM's post, which had garnered more than 1,300 likes and over 750 retweets, on his official Twitter account @faizal_tahir yesterday.
Negaraku, co-written together with Ezra Kong and Mike Chan, was performed by Faizal as well as Joe Flizzow, Altimet and SonaOne.
The collaborative Malay pop single was released in 2016 in conjunction with Merdeka Day and Malaysia Day celebrations.
The 39-year-old singer of hit songs Sejati, Hanyut and Assalamualaikum said: "I feel like a happy kid and considering it got the attention of the PM himself, it's just wonderful."
"This gives me the motivation to come up with more songs of a similar nature in the future," he added when met during a Press conference for the humanitarian mission, Faith For Rohingya.
Although the patriotic tune was received positively by local music lovers at the time of its release, Faizal said that he didn't consider it to be just a patriotic song that was appropriate to be played only during certain events or seasons.
"Its a universal track with a message of love for ones' country," he said.
