KUALA LUMPUR: Popular TV host, actress and businesswoman Noor Neelofa Mohd Noor stays the recipient of the National Women’s Icon Award.
According to a statement by the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry yesterday, the 29-year-old artiste remained a women’s empowerment icon and denied social media speculation that she had been dropped from the list of award recipients.
“The Ministry believes that Neelofa has positively contributed towards the empowerment of Malaysian women and inspired them to progress, excel and rise up to the challenges of the Industrial Revolution 4.0,” said the statement.
Yesterday, social media was abuzz on speculations that Neelofa would be dropped from the list of National Women’s Icons as a result of her recent controversial move to launch a new range of hijab (headscarves) at nightclub Zouk in Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur.
Neelofa’s move was slammed by Netizens and she was also rebuked by Federal Territories Mufti Datuk Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri. She and her fashion company NH Prima International subsequently apologised to the public.
