#Showbiz: Siti Nurhaliza angered by fake news that she is being sued by the government

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza, her family and fans may be rejoicing over the recent arrival of her new baby Siti Aafiyah Khalid, but nasty individuals are still popping up to ridicule her on social media.

An “article” credited to Jack Borcott of “New Straits Times” posted on the website www.blogspotcentral.com and dated April 6, showed her photo but called her “Sita Nurhaliza” and stated in its headline that she was “being sued after using illegal information to make millions”.

The article which contained a New Straits Times logo (but is not from the New Straits Times) claimed that “pop diva, businesswoman and serial investor” Sita Nurhaliza was being sued by the government for “using her influence to make an illegal investment” and “using confidential information that cryptocurrency trading would be legalised to make millions”.

The article also “quoted” Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali as saying “she knew the Bitcoin Code would become legal and made an investment in it with information she should not have had, and now has millions of dollars in profit for taking no risk”.

It stated that the Bitcoin Code was “an online website legalised by the government to generate money for retired citizens and students without raising taxes”.

In an Instagram post at noon today, an irate Siti said: "I'm still under confinement but my good rest has been disrupted by something unpleasant - fake news.

"This popped up on a blog which listed an article purportedly about my 'tough delivery' but when I clicked on its link, a wholly fake one calling me 'Sita Nurhaliza' emerged."

Siti strongly denied the “news report” adding that she had nothing to do with it. "I don't know why certain people are coming up with false news, it's going to confuse Netizens including my fans and friends."

Siti called on the individuals behind the “report” to delete her photo and name, failing which she would take legal action against them and make a report with the relevant authorities.

Her Instagram post has so far generated 557 comments and 25,000 likes. Netizens gave her strong support and urged her to “teach the culprits a lesson”.
