PETALING JAYA: Actor Datuk Farid Kamil’s criminal cases have been postponed to June 29, as he will be undergoing surgery to his right knee later this month.
The Magistrate’s Court here was informed by Farid’s lawyer Faizul Mohd Nasir that he would be undergoing treatment at a hospital in Kuala Lumpur on May 15.
In a news report today, Faizul applied to the court for a postponement of Farid’s six criminal cases to enable the actor to recover from surgery.
This was approved by Magistrate Nor Ariffin Hisham.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Fazedah Faik had earlier applied for Farid’s cases to be heard on June 8.
Farid’s wife, actress and television host Datin Diana Danielle said he suffered injury to his knee while playing football with friends more than a year ago.
“The injury was an old one but lately it has caused him a lot of discomfort, so doctors advised him to have the surgery as soon as possible," she said.
It was the second time Farid injured his knee. In 2010, he suffered a similar injury to his left knee on the set of action adventure Dampak.
He fell from a staircase at the Rootz nightclub in Lot 10, Jalan Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur while performing stunts in a chasing scene.
On Jan 25, Farid pleaded not guilty to the charge of inserting the drug THC (Tetra Hydrocannibol), a type of marijuana into his body.
The star of Lagenda Budak Setan and Bencinta has been charged for committing the above offence at the Petaling Jaya police district headquarters at 4.30pm last Jan 11.
Farid has also pleaded not guilty to four other charges including voluntarily causing hurt to an accounts executive and a traffic policeman at the Kota Damansara Traffic Police Station here on Jan 11. He was released on bail on Jan 16.
In the same proceeding today, Faizul told the court that he would send a representative to the Attorney-General’s Chambers to have the charges against his client dropped.
Farid also attended a case management proceeding, for the charge of making a false police report against two individuals, before Magistrate Salamiah Salleh in the same court.
In this case which will be re-mentioned in court on June 29, Farid has been accused of giving false evidence to the police pertaining to his drug use charge.
He was alleged to have committed the offence at 5.54pm on Jan 31 at the Taman Tun Dr Ismail police station in Kuala Lumpur.
This charge under Section 192 of the Penal Code carries a maximum jail term of three years and a fine.
