KUALA LUMPUR: They may shout ‘Hidup Melayu’ but their conduct is totally “un-Malay”.
This is actress Datuk Fauziah “Ogy” Ahmad Daud’s stinging rebuke of the noisy crowd who demonstrated in support of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak at the High Court Complex in Jalan Duta yesterday.
In an Instagram post, Ogy said: “Dok jerit Hidup Melayu, tapi adab Melayu tak dipraktikkan!” (You scream “Hidup Melayu”, but fail to uphold Malay values of courtesy!)
Ogy described the crowd as practising double standards or “cakap tak serupa bikin”.
“Buat malu lah wei! Sampai Peguam Negara cakap, do it in a civilised manner!
“This is the 21st century and we still have a lot of uncivilised people! Purely disgusting!
“Go study the case and get a good lawyer to explain to you!
“Why can’t you people use your brains?”
Ogy also said she was not siding any political party but hammering home the message that Malaysians, especially Malays, should uphold the exemplary conduct of their forefathers who were courteous or “berbudi bahasa”.
More than 700 Netizens gave Ogy feedback and most of them strongly agreed with her rebuke of the “kurang ajar” crowd.
“They really look like uncivilised people. I fully agree with you, Kak Ogy,” said Muhammad Afif.
“A crying shame!” said Shima.
“Agree with Kak. A bunch of petty hypocrites hiding behind language to promote their selfish agenda,” said Surihati.
The unruly supporters of Najib tried to stop Attorney-General Tommy Thomas from giving a media conference yesterday, by heckling him with calls to speak Bahasa Malaysia.
Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman criticised them as “distracting the Attorney-General’s work”.
He also questioned if the group respected the rule of law.
Najib was yesterday charged with abuse of power and three counts of criminal breach of trust over allegations that he had received RM42 million from SRC International Sdn Bhd, a former subsidiary of 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).
He claimed trial to all charges and the trial judge set bail at RM1 million.
Najib was allowed to leave after his family members managed to post half the sum of the bail today, with another RM500,000 to be paid on July 9.
Thomas who was a civil lawyer before his appointment as attorney-general last month, has been criticised for his poor command of Bahasa Malaysia.
He himself admitted that he had to “brush up” on his command of the national language.
