#Showbiz: Wak Doyok joins Amanah

KUALA LUMPUR: Social media personality-turned-actor Wak Doyok may have been an ardent Barisan Nasional (BN) supporter, but two months after the May 9 change of government, he has chosen to don the colour orange.

The Abang Long Fadil 2 star, whose real name is Mohd Azwan Mohd Nor, yesterday announced that he had joined Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) and submitted his membership form to the party at Section 13, Shah Alam last week.

“It’ll take a month for me to get my membership number, but it’s worth the wait. I’m a strong supporter of its leaders such as Mohamad Sabu, Khalid Samad, Salahuddin Ayub and Dr Dzulkefli Ahmad,” he said in a recent interview.

“In fact, Dr Dzulkefli is a friend of my family, since his father-in-law is the imam at a surau near my house.”

Wak Doyok, 38, admitted he was criticised by Netizens who called him an “opportunist” but ignored them because Malaysians had freedom to join political parties of their choice.

“Malaysia is a democratic nation, and as a citizen I am free to join any political party, provided I believe in its struggle and principles,” he said.

Wak Doyok also learnt that some of his detractors did not even register as voters in the last general election. “Before they pass judgement on others, they should make sure they are voters first.”
