Majalah 3 highlights the story that inspired 'Pulang'

KUALA LUMPUR: Taking on a true story for film is an ambitious endeavour but perseverance is key as sometimes, there are stories worth telling in a grand scale.

That is what 'Pulang' is as director Khabir Bhatia as well as Primeworks Studio chief executive officer Datuk Ahmad Izham Omar embarked on an adventure to capture the real life journey of a son's pursuit to find his father on the silver screen.

With the movie now in cinemas, TV3's Majalah 3 will showcase the true story that inspired 'Pulang', a film starring Remy Ishak, among others.

'Pulang' is based on Ahmad Izham's family, particularly his grandfather Othman who left the country decades ago as a sailor on board a merchant ship.

Majalah 3 which will air tonight at 9pm is set to bring to light the story, told by Othman's son Omar, 76.

Othman sailed the seas to provide for his family and that entailed leaving his wife and their son behind in Serkam, Melaka.

He eventually ended up in Liverpool where many other Malaysians who embarked on a similar journey decided to call the British city home.

Apart from Omar's account on the story that inspired his son Ahmad Izham to turn it into a film, Majalah 3 will highlight the lives of these Malaysians in Liverpool that was once known as the busiest port city in the world.

"He promised to return home, but one year, two years, he did not," Omar had said.

To know more about the story behind 'Pulang', don't forget to tune in to TV3's Majalah 3 at 9pm tonight.
