#Showbiz: Actress Sangeeta surprised over response of Tamil film 'Vedigundu Pasangge'

KUALA LUMPUR: When the Tamil movie Vedigundu Pasangge collected more than RM1 million at the box office recently, it certainly took its leading actress Sangeeta Krishnasamy by surprise.

“Never thought this day would come. But hey here’s to a new era! thank you everyone, without you this wouldn't have been possible!” she posted on her Instagram yesterday.

The 33-year-old award-winning actress also said that the movie’s aesthetic value and content which had received careful treatment from its director, Dr Vimala Perumal, were the elements that had attracted moviegoers from all races and backgrounds.

Sangeeta who took home Best Actress award at the 29th Malaysian Film Festival last year also said that she was proud to have been part of the production which had now gone down the entertainment history as the first local Tamil movie to have collected more than RM1 million.

Co-produced by Veedu Production and Astro Vaanavil channel, Vedigundu Pasangge tells of the various conflicts faced by the rural and urban Indian community.

The film was also screened in the United Kingdom for two weeks.

“It will soon be available in India, Sri Lanka and Singapore,” said Sangeeta.

She said that the hit songs (from Malaysia and India) featured also contributed to the film’s success.

Premiered on July 26, the film is still showing in cinemas.
