KUALA LUMPUR: Rising young star Ismail Izzani is hoping to land a spot as a nominee for Best Southeast Asian Act at the MTV European Music Awards (EMA) 2018.
He was recently selected as one of the Southeast Asia Social Wildcard contenders.
And all he needs now is to get the highest online votes to be eligible to compete in Best Southeast Asian Act category.
The 18-year-old artiste is hopeful that he gets to represent the country at the awards show, set to take place at Bizkaia Arena in Barakaldo, Basque Country in Spain on Nov 4.
“To be selected as one of Southeast Asia Social Wildcard contenders is already an achievement for me. But I do hope I get to represent Malaysia as one of the nominees for the award category,” he said in a news report today.
Besides Ismail, his other contenders are Indonesia’s Gamaliel Audrey Cantika, Thailand’s Twopee Southside and Yung Raja from Singapore.
“It’s a big challenge for me as I am competing against great acts from the region. I hope fans and all Malaysians will vote for me,” said the Luar Biasa singer.
Voting can be made via MTV’s official Twitter page by retweeting Ismail’s photo.
Last year, singer-actress Ayda Jebat was chosen as a contender in the wildcard category.
In 2016, Los Angeles-based singer Yuna and rock group Bunkface were nominated for Best Southeast Asian Act award.
