KUALA LUMPUR: After creating history in Malaysia as the first Malay film to have grossed RM40 million at the box office after 17 days of its screening, Munafik 2 is already creating positive ripples in Indonesia.
According to a news report today, the spiritual horror which was initially set to only be screened in 50 cinemas across the republic since Sept 26, had since been given the green light to be shown in 116 cinemas.
Skop Productions Sdn Bhd’s producer, Datuk Yusof Haslam said that due to the huge demand there, more cinemas were showing Munafik 2.
“I’ve been told that if the demand continues to increase, more cinemas will start screening the film too,” he said.
Yusof said that after four days, Munafik 2’s collection had hit RM1 million.
“Indonesian viewers seem to enjoy Munafik 2 not only for its impactful horror element but also the religious message,” he said, adding that the film’s success in the neighbouring country would mean a triumph for the Malaysian film industry.
Directed by his son Syamsul Yusof who reprises in the sequel of Munafik, other cast includes Maya Karin, Nasir Bilal Khan and Fizz Fairuz.
