#SHOWBIZ: Yusof Haslam denies being happy with Syamsul, Ira split

KUALA LUMPUR: Filmmaker Datuk Yusof Haslam said that he wished the best for his son Syamsul, his former daughter-in-law Puteri Sarah and their children.

"There is no hate towards anyone. All I want is for them to be happy and be good parents to their children," said Yusof in a Harian Metro report yesterday.

Yusof also said that he was "not overjoyed" hearing the news of Mat Kilau: Kebangkitan Pahlawan director Syamsul's divorce from his wife Ira Kazar.

"It's not good news that makes my family and I happy. I just pray that life will go on for Syamsul and his children and they will remain close," he said.

Yusof said that he had not been in contact with Syamsul for some time, and while he was surprised that his son had filed for divorce, he wished Syamsul all the best in life.

When asked about his wife Datin Patimah Ismail's reaction, Yusof said that she had accepted it with an open heart.

Yusof also said that he met Puteri Sarah two days ago and had a chat with her.

"We didn't talk about Syamsul, because that is none of our business."

On Monday, Harian Metro reported that Syamsul had filed for divorce against Ira at the Lower Syariah Court in Gombak Timur, Selangor.

The Syarie lawyer representing Syamsul, Azmi Rais, confirmed that his client filed for divorce at 2pm on Monday.

Azmi said that Syamsul's grounds for filing for divorce was because there was no more understanding between him and Ira.

Syamsul and Ira or Faghirah Fatini Kazaruddin, the daughter of veteran actor Kazar Saisi, were married in Southern Thailand on Jan 6 last year.

After that, actress Puteri Sarah, 39, filed for divorce which was granted by the Syariah Court on June 14 last year.

Syamsul and Puteri Sarah, who were married in March 2014, have two children, Syaikhul Islam, 7, and Sumayyah, 5.
