KUALA LUMPUR: Singer Syura Badron has always welcomed constructive criticism on her music, but some Netizens have gone a little too far.
The 32-year-old artiste whose real name is Zuraidah Badron lamented how some had condemned her latest single Ego as “lagu bodoh” on social media.
“It’s regrettable that certain individuals simply thrash your hard work for no particular reason. If they want to give me feedback, do so by pointing out the things they feel the need to be improved,” she said in a news report today.
Syura said that after her last two songs Ajari Aku Cinta and Gantung did not receive much support from listeners, she figured that she would attempt a “fresh and upbeat” song.
“Ego is outside my comfort zone of traditional pop music. I had hoped for some useful feedback, yet all I got was condemnation. It’s really disappointing.”
Ego also marks Syura’s debut as a songwriter.
“I’m still learning to create my own music, and along the way I’m bound to make mistakes. I appreciate all the feedback to produce better songs in future.”
Despite all the brickbats, Syura will still continue to pen her own songs in future, and perhaps have a collaboration with established lyricists and composers.
“It may be discouraging hearing negative remarks, but I’ll take these as a challenge to put out better songs. I may not be able to please everyone, but it'll be great to hear positive remarks and words of encouragement.”
Ego was released last week on all digital music platforms.
Syura who excels in ethnic creative pop and has eight albums to her credit, took home Best Ethnic Pop Album at Anugerah Industri Muzik 14 in 2007 for her sixth record Syahda Berdendang.
