#Showbiz: Seungri apologises over 'Burning Sun' scandal

KUALA LUMPUR: BigBang’s Seungri finally broke his silence to address the assault that occurred at Burning Sun, a nightclub he owns.

Earlier reports stated that a customer was physically assaulted by the club’s CEO, known as Mr Jang.

This led to a heated controversy as fans were under the impression that Seungri was present at the nightclub at the time of the incident and was aware of the assault, but did not take action.

Before sharing his side of the story, Seungri in an Instagram post recently apologised for his delay in addressing the controversy.

“I am sorry for my delayed official statement and apology. I was persuaded by people around me that a hasty explanation may cause a bigger misunderstanding,” he wrote.

He also denied being present at the nightclub when the assault happened.

“I was not at the scene when the incident that started this controversy occurred.

“I first learned about it a few days later through a staff member and only initially heard that an assault had occurred between two parties – a customer and an employee , and that it was under police investigation,” he wrote.

He lamented that since the nature of the (club) business often sees disputes and arguments on a regular basis, he hoped that it would’ve been resolved in a peaceful manner.

“I would like to take this opportunity to apologise to the victim who was hurt in the incident," he wrote.

The 28-year-old explained that although his role as an executive director for the club did not involve operating and managing the club, he should’ve taken full responsibility from the beginning whatever the case.

Reports also stated that the incident runs deeper than the assault, as it involved alleged drug use in the club. It is understood that Korean law prohibits any use of drugs in Korea.

A footage of a heavily intoxicated woman being dragged out of the club fueled the drug use rumours as she was claimed to be drugged.

“Regarding this issue, I have never seen nor heard of such talk. But if I must be questioned during investigations, then I will actively participate in the inquiries and hope that anyone who has committed a crime will get their rightful punishment."

He ended the post with: “I am sorry to all those that I have caused worries and will try my best to show a more mature and considerate side in the future.”
