KUALA LUMPUR: Fellow filmmakers have given their thumbs up to the appointment of Ahmad Idham Ahmad Nadzri as chief executive officer of the National Film Development Corporation (Finas).
Datuk Yusof Haslam of Skop Productions has hailed Ahmad Idham as “the right man for the job”.
In a news report today, Yusof said: “I’m proud that my fellow filmmaker is now in charge of Finas. He's capable because he has vast experience and understands the problems and issues we face.”
He expressed confidence that Ahmad Idham would “do the right thing” for the film industry.
“Ahmad Idham has lots of challenges ahead, he must be patient in facing them, ignore all naysayers and form a good team to run Finas.”
Yusof also welcomed Ahmad Idham’s promise to have more discussions with industry players, as well as his belief in being open and transparent.
Persatuan Seniman Malaysia (Seniman) president Zed Zaidi who is thrilled with the news said: “The industry should give him a chance to lead Finas. It is refreshing that he believes in consulting fellow directors and producers and that he welcomes feedback and constructive criticism from all of us.
“This is a proud day for all filmmakers and actors.”
Institute of Arts and Media Studies Malaysia president Dr Mahadi J Murat said Ahmad Idham and Finas should come up with an effective action plan to make the film industry achieve the objectives of New Malaysia.
“He has a huge responsibility to prove that industry players can take Finas, and the industry, to greater heights.”
Entertainment Journalists’ Association Of Malaysia (WHAM) president Datuk Tengku Khalidah Tengku Bidin said Ahmad Idham’s appointment would hopefully take Finas out of its “never-ending problems”.
“I’m confident Ahmad Idham will do his utmost and take on every challenge and thrive. I wish him all the best.”
