KUALA LUMPUR: Indonesian songstress Krisdayanti is set to show her vast nation one more “talent” of hers soon.
The voice behind hit song Menghitung Hari is now part of Indonesian President Joko Widodo’s party, Parti Demokrasi Indonesia - Perjuangan (PDI-P) and campaigning to be the Member of Parliament for Malang Raya, East Java.
The 43-year-old artiste has, since September last year, visited more than 300 villages and towns in the parliamentary seat which encompasses her hometown Malang. Malang Raya has more than two million voters.
Singaporean news portal Berita Mediacorp reported last Sunday that Krisdayanti wanted to “help her country in a more meaningful way” after being a successful entertainer for 25 years.
“I believe that it is time for me to serve the people beyond singing. I’ve chosen to serve the people in the electoral district where I was born, because they’ve been my biggest fans and strongest supporters,” said Krisdayanti.
She added that Widodo, who is also known as Jokowi, was an inspirational leader who had done his best to develop Indonesia.
Krisdayanti said becoming a Member of Parliament would not end her singing career.
“Singing will always be my first love. I’ll continue to entertain fans and release albums, but I’ll also help my home district as its national representative.”
Krisdayanti uploaded some photos of her meetings with voters in Malang Raya on her Instagram account yesterday.
“In any situation, I must always have positive energy,” she said in her caption.
Indonesia’s general elections take place on April 17.
