#Showbiz: Plight of cancer-stricken boy moves Awi Rafael

KUALA LUMPUR: Singer-songwriter Awi Rafael remains “full of love” despite the calling-off of his wedding recently.

The 32-year-old Singaporean musician who was formerly engaged to fellow Singaporean actress Atikah Suhaime, shows great compassion for the less fortunate.

Yesterday, Awi uploaded an Instagram video of him visiting 20-year-old cancer patient Shafuan Nor Azhar at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital recently.

“Yesterday evening, I visited Adik Shafuan Nor Azhar at Kuala Lumpur Hospital. He’s got bone cancer and to make matters worse, his mother has been bedridden following a stroke for 2 years.

“Shafuan’s father quit his job to look after him in hospital while his elder brother Nazarhairy works in Jelebu, and also helps take care of him and his mother.

“Imagine the hardship they’re going through, and the many bills they must pay.

“All of us can make a difference in their lives.

“Shafuan is a strong boy with a good heart. I’m so moved by his courage. Life is unfair, boy, but these moments will pass. Amin.”

Awi also called on his fans and followers to contact Nazarhairy via his Instagram account should they wish to help Shafuan and his mother.

Netizens, including singer-songwriter Faizal Tahir, saluted Awi for his labour of love to Shafuan.

Faizal said: “God bless you abundantly my brother. My prayers for Adik Shafuan. God is the best of planners.”

Salwa said: “May God bless this boy and speed his recovery.”

Eleen said: “May Adik Shafuan be blessed with health and may he and his mother recover.”

Ermah said: “You are the best Awi. May you be blessed with love always.”

Awi and Atikah, 27, were engaged on March 17 last year and were supposed to be married a year later.

But several days before their solemnisation day, her father Suhaime Jamali decided to call off the wedding.
