KUALA LUMPUR: In what seemed like a belated April Fool’s joke, Korean pop star Jay Park took to his personal Twitter to announce his retirement.
Koreaboo reported yesterday that Park said he will be retiring from the music industry in a few years.
Park tweeted his decision last Wednesday and said: “I’m gonna retire in a couple years, this is a promise to you guys and myself. Not a lot of space for guys like me left in this game.”
His announcement generated lots of sad responses from fans, who begged him to reconsider his decision.
One of them, Naveli tweeted: “Oh, no! What will become of me without you? In my life I need a Jay Park to smile, even so I will support your decision. I love you!”
Dabin said: “Dear Jay, do whatever you want if it makes you happy. It might be good to see to travelling so that you will get more rest and feel healthier. Even if I still want to see you more. Hope you can be a successful producer who will help create more Korean stars of the future.”
Leah said: “I don’t think you should officially retire. Jay Z did that but he missed making music so much he came back. I say just take a hiatus and come back to making your music when you feel inspired. Either way keep being a boss and we fans will still support you.”
Park, 31, whose real name is Park Jae-beom, has been involved in music since he was in high school, where he spent time writing his own hip-hop songs.
He has been in showbiz since 2005, when he and some friends formed the group 2PM under JYP Entertainment.
Park, who is also a producer, dancer, entrepreneur and actor, is now part the pop group Art Of Movement (AOM) and heads the record label AOMG.
He won Record Of The Year for Take A Deeper Look at the Golden Disk Awards 2011, the only solo Korean artiste to do so.
