#Showbiz: Not right time to take Hollywood yet, says Daniella Sya

KUALA LUMPUR: Actress Daniella Sya feels it’s not time yet for her to make a name in Tinseltown yet, after turning down offers from several Hollywood productions.

The 30-year-old Kedah-born artiste whose real name is Daniella Sya Yeng Yeng has previously been offered to star in Iron Man 3, Marco Polo, Crazy Rich Asians and Power Rangers.

“For Iron Man 3, I didn’t even have to attend an audition as the offer was by a friend who works in a studio which collaborated with a Hollywood production,” she said.

“There is a scene which needed a Chinese actress so as to fulfil the regulation which is needed for the film to be released in China,” she said in a news report yesterday.

Daniella Sya said that when news of it reached popular actress Fan Bingbing, she offered herself for the role and the producers agreed.

“Obviously she would be a far better choice since she is already a big name in China. Even though it was just a role of a secretary, no one would want to miss the chance be in a Hollywood film.

“I would gladly take it but luck was definitely not on my side. I am not upset. I am obviously not on the same level as Fan Bingbing,” she said.

On starring in Marco Polo, Daniella Sya said that she was offered the role of Kokachin (Blue Princess).

“The production never quit asking me to send over my audition video,” she said.

However she had to say no since she was tied up as Singapore’s Mediacorp resident artiste at the time.

“I was busy with filming and at the same time I was also juggling my radio announcer job there,” she said, adding that she was bad at managing her schedules since she didn’t have a manager at the time.

For Crazy Rich Asians, Daniella Sya attended four auditions for different roles.

“After the fourth audition, they asked about my schedule. At the time I was involved in rehearsals for Dosa. I had to let Crazy Rich Asians go only to find out later that the rehearsal dates for Dosa had been postponed,” she added.

On Power Rangers, she said she didn’t even consider it at all since the production was looking for a young actress between the ages 18 and 21.

“Never mind that I did not make the age requirements but my agent insisted that I looked young and that I’m capable of doing action scenes.

“But I stood my ground as I didn’t want any problems to arise later.

“I know that I’ve had missed opportunities to be part of Hollywood productions but I am not worried since I have an agent representing me over there and opportunities to make a name in Hollywood will always be there,” she said.

She was first known after starring in several TV dramas as Manja, Aurora Aishah, Miss Kapten Cikgu Waiz, Dosa, Isteri Untuk Disewa, Ombak Rindu 2019 and Jodoh-Jodoh Annisa.

“I’m blessed that I’ve never been short of job offers here. Let me focus on one thing at a time,” said Daniella Sya who has also starred in films including KL Gangster Underworld, Lost in The Pacific dan Abang Long Fadil 3.
