KUALA LUMPUR: Almost a week after being stabbed in China, Hong Kong actor Simon Yam Tat-Wah has opened up about his ordeal.
Entertainment portal Apple Daily reported today that Yam, 64, said that "everything happened in a flash" and despite the pain, he remained cool and calm.
Yam, who was discharged from hospital on Wednesday and is now resting at home, said: “Everything happened very fast. I did not even know my hand was injured.”
He added that his mind went blank and his only reaction was to ensure that the knife do not go deeper into his body.
“I knew that I needed to go to hospital for treatment. My wife was back at home and learnt of what happened to me through the news.”
Yam said that his wife Qi Qi tried to contact him but could not reach him and got very emotional.
She eventually contacted his assistant and learnt that he was in hospital.
“I'm on the mend slowly, and the incident has made me cherish my family more.”
Yam was stabbed while attending a promotional event in the southern Chinese city of Zhongshan.
He was speaking on stage as a guest at the opening of a new Beijing Easyhome store when a man, believed to be suffering from schizophrenia, suddenly charged towards him.
Yam was stabbed in the abdomen with a fruit knife, and his right fingers were also slashed.
He was admitted to the Adventist Hospital in Hong Kong, and spent four days there.
