PUTRAJAYA: Actress and television host are two of the 'caps' worn by Mira Filzah who has been in showbiz for less than five years.
The 26-year-old from Perak who rocketed to fame co-starring with Remy Ishak in television drama Pujaan Hati Kanda and the film Sangkar is now Most Popular Artiste of Anugerah Bintang Popular Berita Harian (ABPBH).
Mira who also starred in Rise: Ini Kalilah, a film about the historic 2018 general election won the top award at ABPBH 32 in the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) here tonight.
"Thank you so much, friends and fans. It's an amazing night for me," said Mira who also took home the Popular TV Actress and Popular Film Actress awards.
Another versatile talent, singer, songwriter, actress and television host Siti Nordiana took home the Popular TV Host and Popular Female Singer titles in the awards which were broadcast live on TV3 at 9pm.
In the other 11 main categories, Adam Lee won Popular New Male Artiste and Haneesya Hanee won Popular New Female Artiste, while Zizan Razak and DJ Lin won Popular Comedian and Popular Radio Host respectively.
Syafiq Kyle and Fattah Amin won Popular TV Actor and Popular Film Actor respectively.
Janna Nick took home the Popular Versatile Artiste title.
Khai Bahar was Popular Male Singer, while Dayang Nurfaizah and Hael Husaini won Popular Group/Duo.
Laudya Cynthia Bella and BTS won in the new categories of Popular Indonesian Artiste and Popular Korean Artiste respectively, while nasyid group Raihan was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
In the online categories, Haqiem Rusli was the Popular Sensational Artiste, Syafiq and Hannah Delisha were the Popular Film Duo, Remy and Mira were the Popular Drama Duo, Shukri Yahaya was the Popular Antagonist, and Haqiem's Selamat Tinggal Sayang was the Popular Boom Song.
The annual people’s choice awards was sponsored by cosmetics company Alha Alfa and electronic payment service company DuitNow.
Nominations for the categories began on July 15 and ended on Aug 14. The category winners were decided by Berita Harian readers from Aug 20 to Sept 15.
All of the nominees' works were produced between January and December 2018.
Berita Harian executive editor for commercial and current affairs and ABPBH 32 organising chairman Datuk Ahmad Zaini Kamaruzzaman said in line with this year’s theme Melangkaui Sempadan (Crossing Boundaries), the awards had added categories for fans of Indonesian and Korean music.
“We’ve got lots of fans of Indonesian pop and Korean pop today, so we’ve decided to have them pick their favourites in ABPBH.
“After 32 years of honouring the country’s most popular entertainers, it’s time to introduce new developments which keep up with the times,” he said.
The ceremony co-hosted by Datuk AC Mizal and Elly Mazlein saw performances by Aishah, Liza Hanim, SonaOne, Ernie Zakri, Idayu Yaakob, Hazama Azmi, Akim And The Majistret, De Fam, Stacy Anam, and Sufian Suhaimi among others, and the presenters for the award categories included Mustapha Kamal, Aida Khalida, Noorkhiriah Ahmad Shafie, Azhan Rani, Khai Bahar, Wany Hasrita, Shuib, Amy Mastura, Fikri Ibrahim and Mimi Lana.
Mira won a trophy and a Nissan X-Trail 2.0L Hybrid.
