KUALA LUMPUR: The popular annual entertainment awards show Anugerah Bintang Popular Berita Harian (ABPBH) is two days away, and organiser Media Prima Bhd (MPB) has unveiled the Top 5 nominees of each award category.
The Top 5s were selected based on total votes for the earlier Top 20s, and voting took place between Aug 22 and 11.59pm on Sept 30.
ABPBH 36 director and Berita Harian senior editor Shamshul Azree Samshir said that votes for the top award, the Most Popular Artiste will be determined by a professional jury (30 per cent) and readers (70 per cent).
"Competition is very stiff, for all 16 main award categories as well as the top award. For this reason, we have decided to name the Top 5s three days earlier," said Shamshul in a statement today.
ABPBH 36, the 36th edition of the awards show carries the theme Teguh and is sponsored by Conboo.
It will be broadcast live on TV3 from the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) and also streamed on Tonton at 9pm on Friday.
"All of the Top 5 nominees want to thank their fans for such strong support and hope that 'the best persons' will win," said Shamshul.
Shamshul added that the theme Teguh represented the loyalty of fans to their favourite artistes, and the artistes' dedication to their fans in doing their best in their careers.
"The Top 5s in each category are truly talented and deserving of their spots. Readers are increasingly mature in making their choices and they have clearly sided with nominees who are truly talented."
Shamshul said that many veterans were nominated in the main categories, and it was good for them to be recognised by the younger generation of entertainment fans.
These veterans included Eman Manan, Sabri Yunus, Senario, Raja Ema, Raja Azura, Bell Ngasri, Rita Rudaini, Fasha Sandha, Amyza Aznan, Haiza, Sharifah Shahirah and Ropie.
