KUALA LUMPUR: Celebrity chef Datuk Redzuawan Ismail or Chef Wan has lamented that his former wife has "not been taking good care of her health".
In an Instagram post yesterday, the 61-year-old chef criticised his ex-wife Norhayati Ayub in a lengthy Instagram post which showed a photo of her medical expenses at a private hospital.
She suffers from diabetes and a kidney ailment and has to go for regular dialysis treatment at the said hospital.
Chef Wan wrote: “Early in the morning I've got to go to the hospital to settle her medical bills. For years I've told her to watch her diet but she never listened to me.
“Since we had Grab Food, she's been eating like a rich ‘janda’ and I've had to provide her with a food allowance every month.
“It's not about the money but all of us are busy working and supporting ourselves, but now we have to pay for her dialysis and send her to hospital thrice a week and back. It's exhausting.
“We want her to be happy and enjoy her life. Two months ago she had a lung infection, she just doesn't take care of her health. Anyway, this is life's challenge we have to face.
“As long as I'm strong and capable, I'll help others as best as I can. Life is a huge challenge but that's life."
Chef Wan and Norhayati were married in 1982 and divorced three years later. They have two children, chef Mohd Nadzri Redzuawan or Chef Riz; and actress-producer Serina Redzuawan.
Netizens commended Chef Wan for being a caring "friend" of his ex-wife.
Zuhairah said: "Salute Chef Wan. You are a good man who still looks after his ex-wife well. God bless you."
Yusni said: "Bagus Datuk Chef Wan. What's important in life is not how rich or popular you are but how good to others you are."
Khai said: "I pray for your good health and your ex-wife's too Datuk."
