#Showbiz: Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh brings Bhangra beats to KL!

KUALA LUMPUR: Arguably one of India’s biggest stars of today, singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh is set to thrill fans with his infectious Bhangra beats at KL Live, Life Centre at 8pm on Friday.

The multi-talented 35-year-old Punjabi artiste who is also a TV presenter and a social media celebrity with seven million followers on his Instagram account alone, will be performing here for the first time in a concert, dubbed Bollyboom Dosanjh Live In Malaysia 2019.

“I was excited when offered the opportunity to perform in Malaysia,” he said in a recent email interview.

“I can’t wait to hit the stage with bhangra beats for my Malaysian fans,” said Dosanjh, who was understandably thrilled when informed that tickets to his concert were selling fast.

Having released 13 albums, 40 singles; and acted in 21 films in both Punjabi and Hindi, Dosanjh who will be accompanied by an 18-member band, is set to perform some 25 songs during his 150-minute concert.

Fans can expect to see him perform his hit numbers such as Do You Know, 5 Taara, Put Jatt Da and Raat Di Gedi.

Dosanjh who has amassed 20 awards for his music and seven for acting, promises fans a memorable time at the concert.

And seeing that this would be his first visit to our capital city, he hopes to explore KL.

“Actually, my schedule is already very packed, but I’m still hoping to find some time to do a bit of sightseeing when I arrive in KL,” he added.

Dosanjh began his singing career by performing Kirtan (Sikh religious music) at local gurdwaras while still in school.

He then released his debut album, Ishq Da Uda Ada, in 2004 at the age of 20.

In 2011, he explored another creative avenue by playing the lead role in his first movie, The Lion Of Punjab. Although the film flopped at the box office, his track from the movie's soundtrack, Lak 28 Kudi Da, was a major success.

The tune, featuring Yo Yo Honey Singh, peaked at No. 1 on The Official Asian Download Chart published by the BBC Asian Network.

Dosanjh continued his collaboration with Honey Singh the following year and released a single, titled Goliyan, that formed a part of the album, International Villager.

That same year also saw him singing on, Pee Pa Pee Pa, a single from the soundtrack of the Bollywood film, Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya.

Dosanjh then took on the lead role again in the 2012 movie Jatt & Juliet, which became one of the biggest movies ever in the Punjabi film industry.

The award-winning film, directed by Anurag Singh, also featured actress Neeru Bajwa and was filmed in Punjab and Mumbai in India, as well as in Vancouver, Canada.

For his role in the movie, Dosanjh took home Best Actor award at the PTC Punjabi Film Awards show.

It’s only natural that he then landed himself a role in the 2016 social drama movie, Udta Punjab, his first Hindi production.

Directed by Abhishek Chaubey, the movie dealt with the subject of substance abuse in the Indian province of Punjab.

In it, he acted alongside Bollywood big names such as Kareena Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt.

Bollyboom Dosanjh Live In Malaysia 2009 organisers Hitman Solutions chief executive officer Rohit Rampal said that Dosanjh was known to have created quite an impact in the global entertainment scene.

“And we won’t be surprised that his debut concert here will be just that if not more,“ he added.

Tickets, priced between RM249 and RM299, are available at www.myticket.asia .
