#SHOWBIZ: Malaysia's first Punjabi action film 'Saazish' opens tomorrow

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian director Arjin Uppal has made history, by coming up with the country's first Punjabi language action movie Saazish.

Saazish, which means Conspiracy opens in cinemas nationwide tomorrow, and Arjin said that the action-packed, two-hour adventure had colourful characters, lots of shootouts and fist-fights, as well as explosions and stylish stunts.

A production of Sri Saheb Productions, Saazish stars Kulbeer Singh, Avinder Singh, Amaan Singh, Harcharan Singh, Datuk Adi Putra, Navinder Kaur and Paul Masih.

In a recent statement, Arjin said: "The plot unfolds with two parallel storylines - one follows the romance between Sandeep, a milkman, and Jasroop, the heiress to a multi-million-ringgit fortune.

"The other is a gritty tale of a drug cartel led by Raveen, the son of a crime lord named Jeeta."

The movie begins with Jasroop crying for help as she is abducted, and this sets the stage for an action-adventure with lots of plot twists and surprises.

"The ruthless Raveen attempts to woo Jasroop to advance his criminal ambitions, and from here the narrative ascends into an adrenaline-pumping climax with gun battles, explosions and special effects."

Arjin filmed Saazish around Kuala Lumpur, Gopeng in Perak, and Cyberjaya in Sepang, Selangor last year.

"This film is a multi-racial Malaysian film," he said, thanking Singapore-born Adi of Mat Kilau: Kebangkitan Pahlawan fame for joining the cast as a no-nonsense police officer named Inspector Ray.

Arjin commended Avinder for his portrayal of Raveen.

"He is really menacing as the antagonist of the story. Audiences will really despise the monster that he is!"

Avinder said: "I want to thank Arjin for this fantastic silver screen adventure. I'm confident that Raveen will be 'remembered' by viewers for a long time!"

Kulbeer who plays the hero Sandeep said: "It is a real milestone in my career and the film industry to have a fully homegrown Punjabi action movie.

"I urge all Malaysians to watch Saazish and have a great time following all the characters on their explosive adventure."

Navinder who plays Jasroop said: "This is my movie debut and I greatly enjoyed myself during filming."
