JOIN the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) for one of its upcoming Family Fun Day concerts that promises to transport music fans of all ages around the world through an enthralling musical adventure.
The concert, titled Let’s Tour The World!, will take place at the Dewan Filharmonik Petronas in KLCC this Sunday (Feb 2) at 2.30pm and 4.30pm.
With musicians from 29 different countries forming the MPO, the mesmerising aural voyage will present tunes originating from some of their home countries.
The adventure will start in Malaysia where the MPO will perform a medley of beloved folksongs such as Jong Jong Inai, Chan Mali Chan and Rasa Sayang.
Next, the audience will visit the Philippines and discover Midanao Sketches, a popular music piece based on the rhythm of the dances and songs of the Manobo tribe from the northern Mindanao region.
After that, the MPO will travel to China and perform Li’s Spring Festival Overture, a work that depicts the celebration of the Spring Festival (also known as Chinese New Year).
Continuing the journey, the audience will then be transported to the Czech Republic through a performance of Smetana’s Die Moldau. This is considered one of the country’s greatest nationalistic symphonic poems.
The MPO will also perform a Spanish music piece, The Three Cornered Hat Suite, based on a ballet.
The concert will finally take the audience to the US with Bernstein’s On The Town: Three Dance Episode, which is based on the Broadway production of the same name.
Resident conductor Gerard Salonga will be helming the MPO in these concerts that are suitable for adults and children aged 4 and above.
